TRIBE TIME at INGRAM SCHOOL LIBRARIES

(TAKING READING IN INGRAM BEYOND EXPECTATIONS)

Exciting things are going on in the school libraries this year! All 3 libraries will be opening for hours after school and on Saturdays. Students will be able to come to the library for activities such as finishing an assignment, working on homework, using computers, reading and participating in special literary activities.

Opportunities for parents and the community are also being offered at all 3 campus libraries. Some of the services include check out privileges for approved patrons and students; magazine, newspaper and parent resource browsing; access to computers; entrance to special events such as reading events; and access to technology classes for parents and community members.

The libraries will begin this service on September 14 with Ingram Middle School library open until 7:00 pm and will continue using the schedule listed below. These hours will coordinate with the Ingram ISD calendar and detailed schedules of dates and times will be available at each library.

DAY LIBRARY TIME
Monday/Wednesday Ingram Middle School after school until 7 pm
Tuesday/Thursday Ingram Tom Moore High School after school until 7pm
Saturday Ingram Elementary 9:00-3:00

*Elementary School children must be accompanied by an adult.
*All transportation is the responsibility of the individuals attending.
*Guidelines for library usage will be posted at each site and copies made available.

Ingram ISD Receives 09-10 Library Grant

Ingram ISD has been awarded the U.S. Department of Education Improving Literacy Through School Libraries (LSL) grant for the 2009-2010 school year. Through this grant, the Ingram ISD will be implementing a district-wide literacy program entitled TRIBE (Taking Reading in Ingram Beyond Expectations) to improve literacy and student achievement.

The TRIBE Program addresses three main goals:  1) Increase access to up-to-date school library materials; 2) Increase multimedia equipment and well-equipped media centers; and 3) Increase well-trained staff at each of the Library Media Centers. 

The TRIBE Program anticipates on purchasing approximately $128,000 worth of fiction and non-fiction titles that will be appropriate to students Kindergarten through 12th grade and approximately $3000 worth of parent titles for Parent Resource Centers that will be added to each campus. In addition, TRIBE anticipates on purchasing approximately $115,054 worth of computers, multimedia equipment, and software systems to enhance the district’s libraries.  Through the technology funds, the district’s libraries also anticipate in purchasing shelving, computer tables, and literary supplies.
